Case studies: An intelligent freight rate calculator.
Many companies publish tariffs of any kind. Sometimes for internal customers, or for employees only (intranet). International moving conglomerates for example are well known for having transport origin and destination tariffs for moves to most destinations in the world.
A destination tariff table usually involves zones, and weight brackets, which is illustrated by the following example: (At the time of writing, Dec 2004, this table can be found here)
| Destination rates UK | ||||
| Weight | Zone 1 | Zone 2 | Zone 3 | Other Areas |
| 700-999lbs | 23.80 | 25.35 | 26.90 | Fax for rates |
| 1000-1999lbs | 19.80 | 21.35 | 22.90 | Fax for rates |
| 2000-2999lbs | 18.95 | 20.40 | 21.80 | Fax for rates |
| 3000-3999lbs | 17.75 | 19.15 | 21.00 | Fax for rates |
| 4000-4999lbs | 16.75 | 18.15 | 19.80 | Fax for rates |
| 5000lbs plus | £16.50 | £17.60 | £19.25 | Fax for rates |
And here are the zones, so anyone with pocket calculator can do the job:
-
Destination Zones Zone 1
Greater London, Berkshire, Essex, Hertford, Kent, Surrey, Buckinghamshire - Zone 2
Bedford, Cambridge, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Northampton, Oxford, Suffolk, Warwick, Wiltshire - Zone 3
Avon, Derbyshire, Dorset, Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Greater Manchester, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Norfolk, South Yorkshire, Salop, Somerset, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire
Now can somebody give me a rate for 400 cuft to Nottinghamshire please?
This can be done in a breeze. next page >>
